Vocalise II showcases the saxophone's ethereal qualities, opening with a captivating wavelike texture of inhales and exhales. Amidst this gentle backdrop, the saxophone delivers short punctuations that create rhythmic pulses, leading the way to heightened melodic activity over a sustained drone. In a poignant midsection, Lara pays tribute to the medieval French composer Perotin by incorporating a quote from his renowned composition, "Viderunt omnes." This inclusion serves as a heartfelt tribute to the late Pierre Boulez, who passed away during the creation of the work.
