Program Notes

Memoria(i)mobile, composed for orchestra, delves into the intricate concept of memory and its perception of identical or similar events, imagery, or sonorities over time. The piece reflects on how memory relies on context and surroundings, creating ever-changing interpretations of the past. My exploration of fractal geometry, or self-similar structures, and meta-timbre is a prominent feature in this composition. Additionally, I incorporate evocative metaphoric images that periodically resurface throughout the piece.

From the very inception of the composition, I draw inspiration from diverse sources, including imagery from Greek Classical elements (earth, water, air, fire), modern-day popular dances (folkloric/ethnic, rock/pop, jazz, electronic dance music), and the materials that make up orchestral instruments (woods, metals, strings, skins). These influences may not always be explicitly translated into sound, but they serve as the catalysts for creating moments of sonic identity and inspiring unique orchestral mixtures within the composition.
