November 1st 2009 Interdiciplinary project "Desenhando na Mata" took place in São Francisco Xavier, Brazil, located in the Atlantic Forrest, more precisely in the Mantiqueira mountain range. A recording of Onda, for orchestra, was presented while visual artists including Cinthia Crelier, Flávio Castellan, Gabriela Mariano, and students from São Paulo transferred their impressions and reactions to a large panel (7'2" by 4'), in real time, while listening to the work. After the first painting was finished, I connected with the artists via Skype, from New York, and we had a brief discussion about my original intentions while composing the work. After everyone became more familiar with the general intent of the work a second panel was made, also in real-time. Video artists Roberto Fachini and Mayara Rodrigues captured the two versions of the work-in-process with two video cameras, and a DVD will be released with the juxtaposition of both panels, slowly crystallizing two collective subjectivities. Several stages of the process were frozen in the form of photographs that were taken during the entire experience. The collaboration was presented by the Espaço Cultural Ventos Uivantes (ECVU), a nucleus of Associação Cultural Jatobá (AJA), and the non-profit organization Instituto Acáia, São Paulo.
